7th Salon of Sparkling Wines — Hotel Slon, Ljubljana
February 14 @ 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The seventh Salon of Sparkling Wines is taking place at Hotel Slon in Ljubljana on Friday, 14 February between 3 and 9 pm. Read about my experience at last year’s 6th edition here.
40 winemakers, with more than 120 sparkling wines, will be present. Part of the salon will again be dedicated to a selection of culinary specialties by Hotel Slon that pair well with the sparkling wines. As is tradition at this Salon of Sparkling Wine, there’ll be three guided tastings, and a large international evaluation of sparkling wines will also form an integral part of the salon.
16:30 Bread and (sparkling) wine
Led by: Dr Nina Levičnik, sommelier
Throughout history, bread and wine have formed a bond that embodies primacy on the one hand and mysticism on the other. During this workshop, you’ll unravel the connection between bread and wine via a tasting of four types of bread along with sparkling wines. All breads featured at the tasting will be prepared with lees and organic flour, without artificial additives.
18:30 Slovenia & Croatia – Friendship in a Glass of Bubbles
Led by: Dušan Brejc, Oenologist and Chairman of the Evaluation Committee; Prof. Marija Vukelic, director of the Sparkling Wine Salon Zagreb
For the fourth year in a row, two countries are coming together to evaluate the best sparkling wines and prove that the quality of sparkling wines is steadily rising. At the guided tasting, the president of the judging panel and the director of the Zagreb Salon will present three of the best Slovenian and three of Croatia’s best sparkling wines (six in total), four of them white and two rosé.
