Chestnut Festival — Vitovlje, Western Slovenia
October 19 - October 20
The Chestnut Festival is a traditional autumn weekend event held in the small village of Vitovlje, not far from Nova Gorica. It will take place on October 19 and 20, as the third weekend of the month represents the peak of the chestnut season.
Vitovlje’s surrounding hillsides are well suited for growing chestnut trees. Marrons are the type that dominate here. They’re chestnuts of excellent quality and are larger in size than those growing in forests around Slovenia.
The Chestnut Festival in Vitovlje is organised every autumn by the village’s Cultural and Tourist Society. It includes a cultural and entertainment programme, during which the housewives of Vitovlje present an exhibition of delicious homemade pastries.
