Modri – Les Noirs: Pinot Noir Festival & Masterclass — Hotel Kendov Dvorec, Spodnja Idrija, Western Slovenia
October 19, 2019 - October 20, 2019
Pinot Noir is one of the most sensuously fragrant red grapes, and its wine is the most highly prized in the world. The best Pinot Noir producers of Southeastern Europe are getting together on the occasion of ‘Modri Les Noirs – Pinot Noir Festival and Master Class’. This prestigious event is taking place over one weekend on October 19 and 20 at Kendov Dvorec Relais & Châteaux, Spodnja Idrija, Western Slovenia. This year’s is the second edition of the festival, which is the only one of its kind in the region.
MOODY PINOT NOIR
“While most of the producers would claim that Pinot Noir is demanding, problematic, even moody, for me it’s beautifully challenging. We all aspire to be creative, and everyone would like to test themselves by doing something that is provocative. For me, this is Pinot Noir,” claims Matjaž Lemut, the driving force behind TILIA Estate, the House of Pinots.
Matjaž Lemut is an internationally acclaimed expert in the field of viticulture and winemaking. He is a sought-after oenologist, who also consults for Croatian wineries Feravino in Slavonija, and Ipša in Istria. Moreover, the Financial Times has described him as “the most cosmopolitan winemaker from Slovenia.”
THE SECRETS OF PINOT NOIR
Internationally renowned wine expert Quentin Sadler will host Saturday’s masterclass. Attendees are in for bucket-loads of information and inspiration. Sadler is, after all, a wine educator, writer, and blogger with more than three decades of experience in wine marketing. He’ll take festival visitors through the native wine country of Burgundy and through the originality of production in Slovenia. You’ll be entertained by his original approach as he delivers stories that are simultaneously serious and humorous. What about the secrets? They’ll be secrets no more as the winemakers will reveal their creative stories of making Pinot Noir wine. Visitors will also have the opportunity to continue the discussion over dinner.
On Sunday, festival-goers will taste over 100 different Pinot Noirs within the Hotel Kendov Dvorec complex. Additionally, there’ll be debates with winemakers, a workshop about selecting the most appropriate glass for the wine, and a mini masterclass, led by Sadler. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend a special workshop led by Richard Pfister, an expert in sensory analysis and oenology, and creator of perfumes from Switzerland.
