Salt Festival — Piran, Western Slovenia
August 25, 2019
The Salt Festival in Piran is famous for reviving the traditions of salt production on the Slovenian Coast. It is held on Tartini Square, bang in the beautiful, historical, coastal town of Piran. The event will offer a demonstration of the salt making process, a rich cultural programme, and traditional food and drinks.
Part of the event will also take place in the nearby Natural Park of Sečovlje, which houses salt pans that are still operational.
Here’s a bit about artisan salt manufacturing in Slovenia: The roots of this trade go back some 700 years. Today, the salt is still handled by hand, and the entire salt-making process has not changed much since the old days. You can find more information on salt production here.
