Slap Wine Festival – Vipava Valley, Western Slovenia
June 15 @ 4:00 pm - 11:59 pm
The idyllic little village of Slap in the Vipava Valley is hosting its first wine festival called ‘Slap Vino Festival’ on June 15.
It will feature wines and cuisine from local wineries and farms: Vina Benčina, Ferjančič, Jamsek 1887, Marc, Na hribu, Petrič, Pregeljc, Tomas, Hiša vin Rondič, Domačija Malik, Rehar, Trošt, Rouna and Burja wine estates, Vinarstvo Dora Erzelj, Miška Wines, Žorž 1696, as well as Uroš Črnigoj’s Slap Brewery, and the Mežnarjevi farm. The Housewives Society of Planina pri Ajdovščini will also be providing some local fare.
Slap’s central square, or ‘plac’ as they call it in these parts of Slovenia, will play host to this wonderful feast surrounded by historical buildings. On any normal day, the entire village calls for quiet strolls along narrow streets, past typical 18th-century stone houses. Just as you step out of the village, you’ll find romantic pathways among vineyards, with views of the surrounding green hills and other tiny villages, and the towering Nanos plateau.
Singer Maja Založnik will be on hand to round off the evening with a concert. And if you’re in the area for the weekend, you can also attend the 1st Slap Zbor, a choir performance taking place the previous evening (June 14) at 7.30pm. This will involve an informal conglomerate of choirs that will bring you songs about wine and Slap traditions. These three choirs will feature: Ipavska Chamber Choir, Srečko Kosovel Male Choir from Ajdovščina, and Koper’s Obala Mixed Choir. Click here for more information on the choir evening.
